Holly Futers (hideawayholly), is an pen and ink artist from North Yorkshire in the UK, specialising in detailed drawings of fantasy creatures.

Holly is autistic, and uses her art to escape from an often overwhelming world. She would describe herself as more of a process based artist, as she never fully plans out her drawings.  She will start with a loose sketch of the creature, then let her imagination run wild on the page. Only when the drawing is near its end, will the full narrative become apparent. Holly likes to create a story or meaning for each piece as a prompt for others imagination's. Sending them into their own version of her world.

Holly's work is heavily inspired by the natural world, often reflecting her thoughts of 'strange happenings' in the fantasy version of the natural world in her head. Her particular focus of creating creatures comes from her great love of insects and animals, feeling more connection with them than human beings. Holly has had an interest in wildlife since a young child, with her love for wildlife getting more intense as she's got older. She would always notice the smaller things, such as insects and tiny details of plants, which she tries to reflect in her work. Nature and drawing have always been something that brings her structure, escape and calm. Holly loves that she can combine the two.

Holly believes her experience as an autistic person is strongly shown through her work. For example, the way an autistic person processes information, and the amount of information their brain lets in, is different to that of a neurotypical. Autistic people process information 'bottom up'. Which means they process detail first, which is how Holly's drawings are made and reflects the amount of detail in them. She also sees her concerns for wildlife come through in her drawings an narratives. With some pieces reflecting the ever growing negative impact thats humans have on our wildlife. Often these drawings reflect her biggest concern, the great decline of insects.

Holly currently sells different versions of her work, such as original pieces, prints, zines and stickers. She also offers commissions for things like, personalised drawings, album covers, zine art, book illustration and more.
